Liver venous deprivation (LVD) is a novel hypertrophy technique combining portal and hepatic vein embolization to optimize future liver remnant before major hepatectomy. Compared to portal vein embolization, LVD seems to achieve faster and greater volumetric and functional liver regeneration, with higher resectability rates and comparable safety. Early prospective trials and meta-analyses suggest its efficacy across different tumor settings, including colorectal metastases, HCC, and cholangiocarcinoma. LVD is emerging as a promising alternative to standard techniques, potentially becoming the procedure of choice in preoperative liver optimization in selected settings.
