The gold and silver inks of three manuscripts from the Austrian National Library – the Vienna Genesis, the Dagulf-Psalter and the Book of Hours of Galeazzo Maria Sforza (aka. Schwarzes Gebetbuch) – were investigated with different methods. The combination of visual observation, material analysis (FORS, XRF, Raman spectroscopy) and reconstruction helped to understand the production and the condition of the artefacts. Conservation methods were developed based on this research. The projects on the Vienna Genesis and the Dagulf-Psalter are completed. The investigation and the conservation of the Book of Hours are in progress.

Abstract
The gold and silver inks of three manuscripts from the Austrian National Library – the Vienna Genesis, the Dagulf-Psalter and the Book of Hours of Galeazzo Maria Sforza (aka. Schwarzes Gebetbuch) – were investigated with different methods. The combination of visual observation, material analysis (FORS, XRF, Raman spectroscopy) and reconstruction helped to understand the production and the condition of the artefacts. Conservation methods were developed based on this research. The projects on the Vienna Genesis and the Dagulf-Psalter are completed. The investigation and the conservation of the Book of Hours are in progress.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
