The PrACSi corpus prototype presented in this study is designed as an instrument for teaching and assessing pragmatics and spoken interactions and it aims to reconcile the descriptive precision required for research with ease of use in educational contexts. Using the task as the unit of analysis and pragmatic annotation, it addresses challenges inherent in applying corpus linguistics to teaching. In developing the PrACSi prototype, the task “dining at a restaurant” was selected as a focal scenario. This paper describes the spoken corpus, detailing the data collection protocol and the system for transcription and annotation. The project is based on the idea that using tasks as the basis for compilation and interaction- and pragmatics-oriented annotation systems can help overcome the challenges posed by spoken interaction and pragmatics in both corpus linguistics and education.
