The argument I propose is that the legal-aesthetic reading of Kelsen’s basic norm and the reference to Kantorowicz’s man centered kingship can represent an aesthetic-legal key to reading Dante’s legal thought, as a means to clarify its anthropological significance. Without pretending to provide general statements on the link between Dante’s poetic and political-legal works, I intend, moving from the point of observation of the philosopher of law: – to analyze the relevance of the concept of figure from an aesthetic- legal point of view and its connection with Dante’s work; – to take up some recent comments on Kelsen’s text on Dante, starting from the perspective of an aesthetic-legal reading; – to show how Kantorowicz’s notion of man-centered kingship constitutes a reading of topical interest for De Monarchia, carried out from the perspective of legal aesthetics.
