Il latino tardo e la lingua d'uso. Sum = Venio tra il Commonitorium Palladii e Cicerone e pistolografo.

The work is dedicated to the use of sum as an equivalent of venio, when followed by ad or by adverb of motion to place. Starting from a passage from the Commonitorium Palladii, in which this use of sum is rejected by the last publisher and amended, the testimonies are retraced throughout Latin literature, through studies that have mainly identified its presence in the Archaic era in the Plautian theater, in the Varro delle Satire Menippee, in Cicero's epistolograph, in Petronius and later in the Peregrinatio Egeriae. The observation of its persistence in the Romance languages confirms its belonging to the Umgangssprache, or if you prefer to 'Vulgar Latin', as the studies of Löfstedt and Hofmann had already suggested a century ago, without however that philologists have often appeared aware preparing the editions of the texts: even in Cicero's letters the phenomenon is obscured by the amendments.
