Swarm intelligence algorithms, inspired from biological systems, have been extensively investigated as a mean for determining routing protocols in large Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) due to their adaptability to variations in topological and environmental conditions and their intrinsic fault tolerance. It has been previously shown that analytical models based on Markovian Agents are very suited to study the signalling phase in a swarm intelligence protocol for the construction of the routing tables. In this paper, we extend the analysis to the data sending process, where packets generated by the sensors are sent to the sink. Various performance indices of the generated packet traffic are investigated in order to prove that the proposed approach can be utilized to tune WSN parameters.
