The essay analyzes the relationship between Luigi Pareyson and Italo Mancini in light of their interpretation of Kant and their conception of the connection between philosophy and religion. After brief references to Mancini’s interpretation of Kant, it recalls some essential lines of Pareyson’s interpretation of the German philosopher regarding the themes of evil (understood as real opposition), freedom (on which reality depends) and the symbol (in its nexus of physicality and transcendence). Finally, it considers the connection between the two Italian thinkers with regard to their respective conceptions of the relationship between religion and philosophy, metaphysics and hermeneutics, freedom and necessity, concluding with some observations on Mancini’s logic of double thoughts.
