This thesis aims to study one of the most problematic texts in the ancient philosophical tradition: Cicero’s Timaeus, a translation, or more precisely, a Latin adaptation of Plato’s Timaeus written by Cicero between 45 and 44 BCE. I propose a transdisciplinary analysis of the work and its reception in order to shed light on the considerable influence of this text on the Latin and Western philosophical and cultural tradition over the long term. My thesis lies at the intersection of several research perspectives: philology, paleography, editorial studies, and the study of the medieval reception of Cicero’s Timaeus.
