In this paper, we consider an SIR model where vaccination behaviour depends on information based on the incidence of the disease. We demonstrate that informational delays generate, under appropriate assumptions, bifurcations with respect to the endemic equilibrium. These results are consistent with the behaviour observed when information is based on disease prevalence, as considered in [10]. A comparative analysis of these two approaches in the case of linear coverage completes the work.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider an SIR model where vaccination behaviour depends on information based on the incidence of the disease. We demonstrate that informational delays generate, under appropriate assumptions, bifurcations with respect to the endemic equilibrium. These results are consistent with the behaviour observed when information is based on disease prevalence, as considered in [10]. A comparative analysis of these two approaches in the case of linear coverage completes the work.
