BACKGROUND: The understanding of the anatomy of head and neck region associated with facial trauma may be challenging for both patients and medical students. The aim of the present study was to present and discuss the use of the Anatomage table in cases of facial trauma. METHODS: The hospital database was searched for facial trauma cases. Preoperative computed tomography scans were retrieved. The DICOM data of such computed tomography examinations were uploaded in the Anatomage table device in order to obtain an immediate 3D reconstruction image. Then, the workstation was used to elaborate 3D volume renderings from the DICOM data with the available ultrahigh-quality filters. RESULTS: The CT scans of four patients that presented facial fractures were uploaded in the Anatomage table. The ultrahigh-quality filters were applied and the renderings were assessed. CONCLUSIONS: In the present study, the possibilities of application of the Anatomage table for the assessment of facial trauma thanks to the ultrahigh-quality filter was assessed, by the import of DICOM formatted CT scans. The visualization of tridimensional images and the application of the available filters may represent a promising tool both for an improved informed consent by trauma patients and for young medical professionals.
