In this essay, the author reflects on the meaning of the formula "Republic founded on work" which opens the Italian Constitution, starting from the Acts of the Constituent Assembly. She identifies the "historical face" of the Republic in the first four articles of the constitution, and from them she draws an idea of "constitutional citizenship" - distinct from legal citizenship - iure laboris.

Abstract
