The essay associates the interest for the presence of the Ovidian Metamorphoses in the Latin work of Giovanni Faldella on the Italian ‘Risorgimento’ with the interest for intertextuality, arousing from the ‘mosaic’ character of the composition. The analysis of some passages of the De redemptione Italica highlights its construction through the ‘reuse’ of tesserae taken from many Latin classics, connected to each other and with new portions of the text, so that they reach a different meaning. At the beginning of the twentieth century in Italy, this technique takes up the lusus of late-antique ‘centos’ and ‘pastiches’ and allows us to understand the broad sharing of classical culture that Faldella could suppose in the readers of his time.

Abstract
The essay associates the interest for the presence of the Ovidian Metamorphoses in the Latin work of Giovanni Faldella on the Italian ‘Risorgimento’ with the interest for intertextuality, arousing from the ‘mosaic’ character of the composition. The analysis of some passages of the De redemptione Italica highlights its construction through the ‘reuse’ of tesserae taken from many Latin classics, connected to each other and with new portions of the text, so that they reach a different meaning. At the beginning of the twentieth century in Italy, this technique takes up the lusus of late-antique ‘centos’ and ‘pastiches’ and allows us to understand the broad sharing of classical culture that Faldella could suppose in the readers of his time.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
