The paper offers a new philological and metrical interpretation of sections of P.Oxy. XXVII 2452. It argues that the text is likely to be part of a play on Theseus by Sophocles. It also offers an interpretation of the religious, historical and social implications of the references to Theseus and of the allusions to to Athenian tribes present in the text.
