Cloud computing provides users with the possibility to store their data in third-party servers. These data centers may be untrusted or susceptible to attacks, hence they could produce incorrect answers to query. This paper presents a new approach allowing users to verify that their query results are complete (no data are omitted), correct (the result values are not corrupted), and fresh (the newest version of the results is returned). The scheme is intended for range selection on ordered attributes of a relational database. Moreover, the proposed technique is computationally affordable and particularly suited for data streams in which the frequency of data insertion is very high.

Abstract

Cloud computing provides users with the possibility to store their data in third-party servers. These data centers may be untrusted or susceptible to attacks, hence they could produce incorrect answers to query. This paper presents a new approach allowing users to verify that their query results are complete (no data are omitted), correct (the result values are not corrupted), and fresh (the newest version of the results is returned). The scheme is intended for range selection on ordered attributes of a relational database. Moreover, the proposed technique is computationally affordable and particularly suited for data streams in which the frequency of data insertion is very high.
